Founded in service to the public
We work to greatly reduce the number of law enforcement officers who engage in acts of excessive force — through rigorous research, education, training, and tireless advocacy.

Founding Principles
Our Mission
To greatly reduce the number of law enforcement officers who engage in acts of excessive force — providing citizens, agencies, and prosecutors with the data and discipline required to improve public safety outcomes.
What we do
Annual nationwide reports tracking police use-of-force incidents, settlements, and outcomes.
An active database of officers who have violated 4th Amendment rights of citizens.
Documenting new state legislation that protects citizens from excessive force.
Paid internships, graduate fellowships, and scholarships honoring officers of integrity.

Research that holds the line
We publish nationwide annual reports on excessive force, track jurisdictional data on the killing of unarmed suspects, document settlement and jury award totals, and rank government agencies on their open-records responsiveness.
